1/2″ Thick PVC Foam Board
Shine PVC supplies 1/2″ thick PVC foam board as a made-to-order thickness. The board is extruded to 12.7mm, the exact metric equivalent of half an inch, by adjusting the calibrator and die setup for your production run. It is not a stock gauge. Standard production covers 1 to 40mm, and imperial thicknesses like 1/2″ are produced against confirmed orders.
Description
Made to Your Drawings, Not the Nearest Metric Size
12.7mm matters when the drawing tolerance does. Wherever panels meet machined parts, gaskets, or each other in a stack, a 0.7mm offset repeats at every interface and shows up at final assembly. Non-standard thickness production means the board is extruded to the number on your drawing rather than to the nearest metric gauge in the standard range.
Structure Options Across the Product Range
A 1/2″ board can be produced in the structure that fits the job. Celuka offers a hard skin of roughly 0.1 to 1mm at Shore D65, which machines cleanly and gives edge banding a good bonding surface. Co-extruded board carries a harder solid skin of 0.2 to 0.8mm at Shore D68 for applications that see frequent handling or weather. Free foam is a uniform closed-cell structure from 0.35 to 0.60 g/cm³, the light and printable option. The technical team confirms the right structure with you once the application is specified.
Density Dialed to the Load
Density runs from 0.35 to 0.80 g/cm³ depending on the board type and the application. Structural panels that carry weight are produced at higher densities, while display and signage work is often better served at the lower end of the range. On a custom run, the density you specify also sets most of the resin content per sheet, so the quote follows the load the board actually carries rather than the top of the range.
Colors and Finishes to Match the Job
Color and finish follow the structure chosen for the run, and both are confirmed as part of the custom specification rather than selected from warehouse stock. The color list by board type is in the specification table below. Surface options include double-sided sanding for tighter thickness control and a protected film finish for transport.
The Conversion That Matters: 1/2″ = 12.7mm
One half inch is exactly 12.7mm. The metric gauge closest to it, 12mm, is not the same product. The difference is 0.7mm, which is small enough to ignore in loose applications and large enough to matter in precise ones.

How 1/2" Boards Are Made to Order
A 1/2" run is a custom production order, and the terms reflect that. The minimum order is 2 tonnes for board products, subject to negotiation. Custom lead time runs 14 to 60 days. The extra time comes from swapping the calibrator and die setup for a thickness that is not in the standard rotation.
To quote the job we need six inputs: thickness, sheet size, density, quantity, application, and destination port. Before any figure is quoted, an engineer confirms the run against the production line. Prices are not published; each custom specification is priced individually.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does 0.7mm matter?
In a slot cut for a 12.7mm panel, a 12mm board leaves visible play. In a stack of laminated boards, the error adds up with every layer. For decorative panels with no mating dimension, the difference is usually irrelevant. The rule is simple: if your drawings are in inches and the mating dimensions are machined to match, order 12.7mm. If your drawings are in millimeters, the standard 12mm PVC Foam Board is the simpler path.
Is 1/2" PVC foam board a stock item?
No. 1/2" (12.7mm) is a made-to-order thickness. The minimum order is 2 tonnes, and custom lead time runs 14 to 60 days.
What is the difference between 1/2" and 12mm board?
1/2" is exactly 12.7mm. A 12mm board is 0.7mm thinner. Choose 12.7mm when your drawings are in inches or when mating dimensions are machined to 12.7mm; choose standard 12mm PVC Foam Board when your drawings are metric.
Do 1/2" boards come in 4'×8' sheets?
Yes. Standard sheets include 1220×2440mm (4'×8'), 915×1830mm, 1560×3050mm, and 2050×3050mm. OEM sizes up to a 2050mm width are confirmed at inquiry.
Do you ship to the United States?
Yes. The US is an export market for Shine. UL 94 fire testing can be arranged on request, with the testing fee borne by the buyer.
