Blue PVC Foam Board

Blue PVC foam board is produced as a standard in-stock blue, with custom blues matched to RAL, Pantone, or a physical sample. The color runs through the full board thickness, so scratches and routed edges stay blue, which is why blue is widely used in wayfinding, safety signage, and corporate identity programs. Shine holds color tolerance within ΔE < 2.0 and retains batch samples so repeat orders match earlier shipments.

Description

Color Through the Full Thickness

Blue is a color frequently specified for safety signage, wayfinding systems, and corporate identity programs. The through-colored board provides color that runs through the entire thickness rather than being applied only to the surface, so routed edges and drilled holes show the same color as the face, not a white core.

Appearance After Surface Wear

Through-colored blue keeps its appearance after surface wear. A painted sign that is scratched reveals the substrate color underneath. In contrast, a through-colored blue board, scratched in the same way, remains blue. Over time, this can reduce the frequency of sign replacement in high-traffic or high-contact environments. International safety sign standards such as ISO 7010 assign specific meanings to the color blue (mandatory action signs, Category M). For buyers producing this type of signage, through-colored board can help maintain color consistency over the service life of the sign. Shine does not claim that standard blue PVC board has been independently certified to any specific safety sign standard; buyers should confirm that the final sign assembly meets the requirements of their local regulations.

Corporate Identity Programs

Many organizations specify a particular shade of blue as their brand color. When fitting out multiple locations, achieving consistent color across different materials, suppliers, and countries can be challenging. This is where through-colored board produced from a retained pigment formulation and a reference sample can provide batch-to-batch color consistency within ΔE < 2.0. For buyers managing multi-site rollouts, this helps reduce the risk of visible color variation between locations.

Physical References for Color Matching

Color matching requires a physical reference. RAL 5015 (Sky Blue), RAL 5017 (Traffic Blue), and Pantone 300C are different blues. Because of this, a purchase order that reads “blue” does not define which blue. For color-critical applications, specify a physical color reference: a Pantone number with coating designation, a RAL code, or a physical color chip. Digital color representations (RGB, CMYK, HEX values displayed on a screen) are not reliable color references because screen calibration varies. Shine matches to physical references, with ΔE < 2.0 as the standard production tolerance and ΔE < 1.0 available for tighter requirements.

Uses

Retail Chains and Branded Environments

Corporate identity signage and branded environments cover retail chains, bank branches, hotel lobbies, and hospital wayfinding systems.

Safety and Mandatory Action Signage

Safety and mandatory action signage applies where blue is the designated color per applicable standards, and color-coded departmental and directional signage appears in large facilities such as hospitals, universities, and airports.

Exhibition and Event Branding

Exhibition and event branding uses blue where the booth structure itself communicates brand color.

Frequently Asked Questions

How close can you match my specific blue?

ΔE < 2.0 is the standard production tolerance, meaning the color difference is imperceptible to most viewers under D65 lighting when the panels are not placed directly adjacent to the reference. ΔE < 1.0 is achievable with tighter process control; specify this if the panels will be installed edge-to-edge with other materials in the same brand color. For critical brand applications, provide a physical color sample with your order and request a press-out sample for approval before the production run.

Will the blue fade outdoors?

Standard blue board, yes, over 1 to 2 years of direct sun, at approximately the same rate as any non-UV-stabilized colored PVC board. The blue pigment provides no UV protection to the PVC polymer. For outdoor blue signage, specify co-extruded board with a UV-protective cap layer in your custom blue. Per Shine's internal durability classification, this grade lasts up to 8 to 10 years in temperate climates, and independent weathering data is available on request. The UV stabilizers are concentrated in the same cap layer that carries the blue pigment.

Is there a setup charge for a custom blue?

Pricing reflects the smaller batch size and changeover cost rather than a separate tooling fee. As a result, the per-sheet cost is higher than white. Contact Shine with your Pantone or RAL reference, board type, thickness, and quantity for a quotation.
