Understanding which one matters for your application is the difference between specifying a board that stays flat and one that sags.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-3 ace-line old-record-id-doxcnMcPPSXXjcdNg82C1o02u6e\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The Celuka Skin Carries the Bending Load<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"ace-line ace-line old-record-id-doxcnY8KG3VU3R5rYTqtepNhTJg\"><strong>The Celuka skin carries most of the bending load.<\/strong> When a board bends, the outer surfaces experience the highest stress, the top surface in compression, the bottom surface in tension. Meanwhile, the material at the center of the thickness contributes far less to bending resistance. Celuka board places a dense, near-solid PVC skin (0.1 to 1.0mm thick, density ~1.3 g\/cm\u00b3) exactly where the stress is highest, at the surface. This is the same structural principle as an I-beam: put the material at the flanges, keep the web light. The skin is produced by flash-freezing the molten PVC surface against a chilled calibrator immediately after the extrusion die, before the blowing agent in the core has time to decompose and expand. The practical choice: for shelving where appearance matters, Celuka at 0.55 to 0.65 g\/cm\u00b3 provides the right balance. A 15mm board and an 18mm board of the same density differ in thickness by 20%, but the 18mm board is approximately 73% stiffer. When a shelf sags, increasing thickness from 15mm to 18mm is more effective than increasing density from 0.55 to 0.65. The trade-off: thicker boards are heavier, cost more, and take up more space. For cabinet shelves spanning 600mm or less, 15mm at 0.55 density is usually sufficient.
